In edge counting applications, the counter can count up or down. You can configure the counter to do the following:

  • Always count up
  • Always count down
  • Externally controlled

If you select Externally controlled, the device monitors a hardware signal to determine the count direction. When the signal is high, the counter counts up; when the signal is low, the counter counts down.
