The methods you can use to name a net, are described in the table below.
| Net Naming Method | Description |
|---|---|
| Auto-naming | When a net is created, it is assigned an automatic net name by the system. These names are unique in the design and take the form of numbers. |
| Assigning a preferred net name | You may assign your own name to a net by entering a name in the Preferred net name field in the Net name tab of the Net Properties dialog box. |
| Connecting to global connectors | Attaching global connectors to nets creates a global net. The net inherits the name of the global connector and becomes available throughout the design. |
| Connecting to the ground symbol |

| Connecting to on-page connectors | A net may also inherit the name of an attached on-page connector. Use on-page connectors to virtually connect two nets on a schematic page. |
| Connecting to off-page connectors | Nets connected to an off-page connector may inherit the name of the off-page connector. |
| Connecting to hierarchical/subcircuit block connectors |
Nets connected to a hierarchical connector may inherit the name of the hierarchical connector. Net naming becomes more complex when designs contain global nets, connectors, or subcircuits and hierarchical blocks. |
Each naming method has a priority level.
