Connectors influence the names of their connected nets.
The table below describes the connectors that you can use to connect nets together. The name that appears for each symbol in the table is the default names (RefDes) for the first instance of each connector type in a design. These can be changed as desired, either during or after placement.
| Symbol | Connector Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
|
Hierarchical | Input or output connector for hierarchical blocks and subcircuits. |
|
Off-Page | Use in flat multi-sheet design to connect pages that are at the same level, that is, not nested. |
|
On-Page | Use to connect to other nets on the same sheet without additional wires. |
|
Global | Use to define a global net. A net that has a name that remains constant no matter where it is placed in a design's hierarchy is called a global net. |
|
On-Page to Global Connection | This symbol appears if you virtually connect an on-page connector to any global connector. |
|
Analog Ground | The analog ground connector is a special case of global connector. It cannot be renamed. |
To determine a placed connector's type, hover the mouse pointer over the connector to display a tool tip.
When you wire a connector to a net, the name of the net changes to match the name of the connector if:
- The net is auto-named, that is, it has no preferred name.
Or
- The connector is a global connector.
