Adding GPIO I/O Nodes to the LabVIEW Project
The LabVIEW FPGA I/O node exposes all GPIO signals to the LabVIEW FPGA application logic.
Each carrier channel provides 12 bidirectional GPIO signals that can be controlled by
the LabVIEW FPGA application logic. GPIO control is organized into four primary elements:GPIO Input Data—Returns the current logic state of the GPIO signals. The application can
monitor the input state regardless of whether the GPIO is configured as
an input or output.
GPIO Output Data—Specifies the logic values that are driven on GPIO signals that are
configured as outputs.
GPIO Output Enable—Controls the direction of each GPIO signal:
GPIO Masks—Corresponding mask registers are provided for GPIO Input Data, GPIO
Output Data, and GPIO Output Enable. These masks indicate which GPIO
signals are available to the LabVIEW FPGA application, and which signals
may be reserved by the carrier for internal functions such as device
configuration and I2C communication.

Perform the following steps to add GPIO I/O nodes to a LabVIEW FPGA project.
- In the Project Explorer window, right-click the Interface Adapter Module target and select .
-
In the Add FPGA I/O dialog, select the desired GPIO I/O
items and add them to the project.
Note To create a more organized project hierarchy, enable Place new I/O in folders when adding FPGA I/O items. The following image shows the folder structure when this option is enabled.

Tip GPIO FPGA I/O nodes are automatically included in the generated Getting Started example projects.
