Transient Analysis

The NI Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite provides two different techniques for extracting information about nonstationary signals for transient analysis: Short-time Fourier transform and shock response spectrum.

Use the Short-time Fourier transform (STFT) for signals in which the frequency content changes relatively slowly with time. Use the shock response spectrum (SRS) for shock signals.

You can extract frequency information as a function of time or rotational speed from the signal of interest. You typically display the STFT results on a Waterfall Graph, on an SV Intensity Graph, or on a Colormap.

You can evaluate the severity of a shock signal. You typically display the SRS results on an XY graph.
