Connecting Signals

Install interface adapter modules in the carrier before installing the carrier in the chassis. Make signal connections to external components after installing the carrier in the chassis.
When connecting to interface adapter modules, use cables that meet or exceed the performance in
the following table.

Connecting Signals to External Components
- Connect your chassis to a power source as described in the chassis getting started documentation.

Connect serial devices and ECUs as required for your application.
- Deserializer interface adapter module: connect serial devices to the carrier serial input (SI) connectors using a FAKRA cable.
- Serializer interface adapter module: connect ECUs to the carrier serial output (SO) connectors using a FAKRA cable.
Note The coaxial connectors on serial input devices and on serial out devices are physically identical. The name of the interface adapter module is on its front panel. Use the interface adapter module name to differentiate between input interface adapter modules and output interface adapter modules.Notice Do not plug or unplug devices while power over coax is enabled on serial channels. Doing so might damage your device. Before plugging and unplugging a device, always set the power over coax to disabled. Wait for the power to be fully disabled. - Connect the terminal blocks included in your kit to the AUX power connectors on the carrier.

(Optional) Connect the power sink or power source to the AUX power connector as
required for your application.
- Deserializer device or SerDes device: connect a copper wire from the power source to the corresponding serial input channel pin on the AUX power connector. Doing so allows you to supply external power. If you do not connect an external power source, you can power devices that are connected to the carrier with the chassis backplane.
- Serializer device or SerDes device: connect a copper wire from the power sink to the corresponding serial output channel pin on the AUX power connector. Doing so allows you to simulate an additional load.
Note AUX power connector pins map to serial input and serial output connectors one to one.

Connecting Signals to an ECU, Power Source, and Camera
- Carrier with serializer device installed in Slot 1 Interface Adapter Module and deserializer device installed in Slot 2 Interface Adapter Module
- Electronic Control Unit (ECU)
- High-speed FAKRA Mini (HFM) double jack, code Z to two high-speed FAKRA mini (HFM) single plug, code Z cables
- Power Source
- Power connector wire, grounding, to AUX connector ground pin 8 or ground pin 3
- Power connector wire, positively charged, to AUX connector pin 9 (carrier channel 4)
- Camera
- High-speed FAKRA Mini (HFM) double jack, code Z to two high-speed FAKRA mini (HFM) single plug, code Z cables
Connecting to an ECU and Display
- Carrier with serializer device installed in Slot 1 Interface Adapter Module and deserializer device installed in Slot 2 Interface Adapter Module
- Display
- High-speed FAKRA Mini (HFM) double jack, code Z to two high-speed FAKRA mini (HFM) single plug, code Z cables
- Power loop from AUX connector pin 6 (carrier channel 0) to pin 9 (carrier channel 4)
- Electronic Control Unit (ECU)
- High-speed FAKRA Mini (HFM) double jack, code Z to two high-speed FAKRA mini (HFM) single plug, code Z cables
Note With this configuration, the power
connector wire allows the ECU to power the display device or serial device.
