Update Service lets you save the installers of any updates for installation at another time. Complete the following steps to determine whether to save the updates for later installation or to install them immediately after download completes:

  1. Select the File»Preferences menu item to launch the Update Service Preferences dialog box.
    Note Depending on your version of Microsoft Windows, Update Service may close and reopen to request permission to run with administrator privileges. If prompted for administrator privileges, click Yes to launch Update Service and display the Preferences dialog box.
  2. In the After downloading updates field, select whether you want to Save updates or Save and install updates, as follows:
    • If you select Save updates, Update Service displays a Save button when you select updates. After you download and save the updates, click Open Directory to navigate to the directory of the saved updates. Double-click on setup.exe to install all selected updates.
    • If you select Save and install updates, Update Service automatically downloads and launches the installers of any updates you select.

  • This setting affects all users on this computer.
  • If you delete any updates from this directory and later use NI software to create an application that contains these updates, the installer build tools prompt you for the necessary files. For more information about this issue, visit ni.com/info and enter the Info Code DeletingUpdates.
