Install and configure a SystemLink instance with a single-seat license. You can use this instance to begin managing systems and working with data.

SystemLink installs on a single-purpose Windows server.

The system specifications required to operate SystemLink varies based on workload. Before installing SystemLink, size your system storage needs for all required data, files, and packages.
Note You can also store data in an Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3). For information on configuring SystemLink to use S3, refer to the Uploading Files to Amazon Simple Storage Service.

Based on the your SystemLink license size, ensure you have dedicated hardware that matches the following specifications:

Table 9. SystemLink Installation Hardware Configurations
Specification Small Medium
Processor 4+ cores 8+ cores
RAM 16+ GB 32+ GB
Disk Space 128+ GiB 256 + GiB
Recommended Amazon EC2 Instance Type t3.xlarge t3.2xlarge
  1. Download and open SystemLink.
  2. Select the application software version, add-ons, and any additional items.
Note Select the following options for a SystemLink license. A SystemLink Server license allows for the selection of additional options.
    • NI SystemLink Core Services
    • NI SystemLink Server - Software Configuration Module
    • NI SystemLink Server - JupyterHub Module
    • NI SystemLink Server - Test Module
    • NI SystemLink Server - Asset Module
  3. Install SystemLink by reviewing and accepting the SystemLink Server license agreements.
  4. Verify the software license and the activation status through NI License Manager.
You can use online or offline activation to license your server.
  5. Configure SystemLink for secure connectivity.
    1. Open NI Web Server Configuration.
    2. In the Authentication tab, specify your login options.
These options control how users log into SystemLink. Allow administrator access to SystemLink by setting an administrator password. Granting administrator access does not consume a user license.
Note To enable a simple login setup, specify the following:
      • Allow a login through a Windows account
      • Allow a login by local and active directory users

You can also allow users to connect through an LDAP server or through OpenID Connect. For more information on these configurations, refer to the SystemLink Operations Handbook.

    3. In the HTTPS tab, specify the security certificate.

You can obtain a certificate through a certificate authority, such as Let's Encrypt, or from your IT department.

Note When generating a certificate, you can use the NI Web Server Configuration workflow, Create a certificate signing request. This workflow streamlines the certificate request process and eliminates common errors.
    4. Install the certificate through NI Web Server Configuration.
    5. Click Apply.
    6. Restart SystemLink.
  6. Ensure the security certificate defines the preferred host name.
    1. In NI Web Server Configuration, navigate to the HTTPS tab and click View certificate.
    2. In the View Certificate dialog box, click Details.
    3. In the Details tab, ensure the host name and DNS name are correct in the Subject Alternative Name field.
  7. Enable email notifications by configuring the SMTP settings.
    1. Open NI SystemLink Server Configuration.
    2. Under NI SystemLink Service Manager, select the SMPT service.
    3. Set the Host to your preferred SMTP service address. For example, you can set the host to outlook.office365.com.
    4. Configure the remaining fields as required by your chosen SMTP service.
    5. Send a test email to ensure that you have properly configured the settings.
