Nigel is a design assistant powered by Microsoft Azure OpenAI. Nigel brings a wealth of knowledge about LabVIEW into your design process to help you create VIs and projects.

Introduced in LabVIEW 2025 Q3

Nigel can help you while you are working in LabVIEW by performing tasks such as:
  • Finding VIs and objects in palettes using the search bar
  • Finding examples using the search bar to give you a solid starting point for a project
  • Providing instructions for completing a specific task
  • Explaining key LabVIEW and VI design concepts
  • Describing the functionality of existing VIs
  • Assisting with finding specific settings or dialog boxes in the LabVIEW environment
  • Summarizing documentation topics
  • Answering questions about hardware functionality and configuration
Note Nigel cannot find VIs and objects contained in installed third-party palettes.

Installing Nigel

Nigel installs by default while installing LabVIEW. If you do not want to install Nigel, you can deselect NI Nigel AI Advisor for LabVIEW <Version Year> when setting up your LabVIEW installation.

Accessing Nigel

Nigel is integrated into the LabVIEW IDE, making it easy to open a chat window with Nigel from the menu, toolbar, and Context Help window. You can also use the Search with Nigel search bar to generate a drop-down list of AI-powered search results.
