Exploring Indexed Data with a Different Hierarchy View

Instead of browsing through the tree structure of the file system, you can create your own view on your data without having to change the data itself or the data storage mode in the file system. To do so, define your own hierarchy using the indexed custom properties. The custom properties must be from the file or channel group level, must be a string type, and must be optimized. You can create your own view on your data in both SystemLink TDM and in DIAdem.

Configuring Data Indexing Instances with Their Own Hierarchy Views in SystemLink TDM

  1. Open SystemLink TDM in your web browser and login with your user name and password.
  2. Click Data Indexing.
  3. Click Data Indexing Instances.
  4. Select New»Data Indexing to start the configuration wizard.
  5. Enter, for example, MyNewDataFinder as the name of the new data indexing instance.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Enter, for example, MySearchArea as the name of the search area.
  8. Click Browse.
  9. Select the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\DataFinder\Data.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Disable Enable MS SQL support if this dialog box is displayed. This dialog box is only displayed if you select the setting Display SQL Server Settings in the Global Settings.
  13. Enable Use DataFinder hierarchy.
  14. Select User-defined and click Browse.
  15. Select C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\DataFinder\Model Hierarchy\operator_test.dfh and click Open.
  16. Click Next.
  17. Select the ADVANCED license.
  18. Click Finish to complete the initial configuration of the instance.
  19. Select the newly data indexing instance from the list and click Start to start indexing the data.

Connecting DIAdem with the Created Data Indexing Instance

Complete the following steps to save the connection data from this data indexing instance to a file and to connect DIAdem with the instance using this file:

  1. Select the new data indexing instance and click Connect»Export Client Configuration in the Data Indexing in SystemLink TDM.
  2. Click Export. SystemLink TDM saves the connection information in a file with the filname extension .urf.
  3. In the dialog box that opens, select the setting USI registration tool ... and close the dialog box with OK.
  4. Close the next dialog box.
  5. Copy the URF file to your client computer and double-click that file in order to make the connection available in DIAdem.
  6. Start DIAdem and open DIAdem NAVIGATOR.
  7. Click DataFinder on the group bar and select the Open DataFinder button. DIAdem opens the Open DataFinder dialog box.
  8. Select the new data indexing instance from the list and click OK. The connection with the hierarchy view has the postfix _Hierarchy.

Now you can view your data in DIAdem NAVIGATOR in the hierarchy view you defined.

Creating a Hierarchy View with DIAdem

You can create a hierarchy view for your data indexing instance in DIAdem as well. To do so, use a reference file with the custom properties you used for your hierarchy view. Complete the following steps to create a hierarchy view in DIAdem:

  1. Select DIAdem SCRIPT.
  2. Select Settings»SystemLink TDM»DataFinder Hierarchy.
  3. Click the icon Select Reference File.
  4. Change the file type in National Instruments TDM Streaming (*.TDMS).
  5. Select the file <DIAdem Program Folder>\Examples\TDM Server configurations\Data\TR_M17_QT_42-1.tdms and click Open.
  6. Click the icon New Level Below.
  7. Select the file property Test_Operator and click OK.
  8. Click the icon New Level Below again.
  9. Select the file property Test_Name and click OK.
  10. Select Save DataFinder Hierarchy As to save your configuration file.
  11. Click Data Preview to use the new hierarchy view for your live data. The data preview is only available if there is a connection to the data indexing.
Note Instead of using a reference file, you can connect to an existing data indexing instance if you click the Select Active Data Source button and change the hierarchy with the same steps as described above.
