Logging data for offline post-processing and further analysis is important for administering electrical power systems. For example, if a voltage event occurs that leads to a disturbance in an electrical power grid, you need to analyze logged data to determine the location and cause of the fault. Analyzing logged data can help to avoid such fault occurring again in the future. Long-term monitoring of power quality and consumption data can be beneficial to the electrical power industry.

The following are three types of data logging that are common in the electrical power industry:

  • Waveform data logging for data with high sample rates.
  • Disturbance data logging for slower-speed data.
  • Trend data logging over a long term.
