Before you can use the RF Recording Software API, you must complete the license activation process after the software installation.

Note Each additional channel in your system requires a license. To add additional license files to your system, refer to Adding a New License File.
  1. Launch the NI Volume License Manager, by navigating to Start » National Instruments » Volume License Manager.
  2. In the Getting Started Wizard that opens, click Next.
  3. In the Install Agreement License File window, select I do not have an agreement license file for this computer and click Next.
  4. In the Request and Agreement License File window, select Save the request to a text file so that I can manually send it later and click Next.
  5. Populate the fields in the Request an Agreement License File window:
    1. Enter the required information in the Administrator Name, Administrator Email, and Company fields.
    2. Enter a value in the Service ID field.
      • If you have already sent the purchase order, NI will have contacted the Volume License Account (VLA) administrator with a service ID.
      • If you perform this process before sending the purchase order and do not yet have a service ID, enter any value into the field. NI generates the service ID during the order processing in step 7.
    3. Select Custom – Specify in Comments (Examples in Help) in the License Model field.
    4. Enter Need unmanaged concurrent license. in the comments field.
    5. Click Save. The Volume License Manager generates a text file.
  6. Specify a file name and location for the text file.
  7. Open the text file.
    • If you have already sent the purchase order, send the information in the text file to the listed email address in the text file.
    • If you perform this process before sending the purchase order, record the machine name and computer ID and include that information on the purchase order, along with an administrator name and contact information. This information helps expedite the license file creation process; you do not need to send this email because the license file is generated and sent to the Volume License Account (VLA) administrator when the order is processed.

NI emails the license to the administrator listed on the Volume License Agreement.

  8. After the administrator receives the license file, save it to a location on the system.
  9. Launch the NI Volume License Manager.
  10. In the Install Agreement License File window, select I have an agreement license file for this computer. Click the ellipses on the right side of the field to select the saved license file from step 8.
  11. In the Import Settings window, select Do not import settings and click Next.
  12. Populate the fields in the Configure Basic Volume License Server Preferences window:
    1. Leave the Port settings in their default state.
    2. Enter values in the Administrator Full Name, Phone, and Email fields. The URL field is optional.
    3. Click Next.
  13. In the Configure VLA Log Sending window, select Let me send my VLA log to NI manually using the VLA Log Wizard and click Next.
You will never have to send VLA logs to NI for perpetual licenses.
  14. In the Configure Email Preferences window, click Next.
Leave the values listed for General Enable email and Outgoing Mail Server Information Server requires encrypted connection (SSL) in their default states (No).
  15. Click Finish in the next window. The Volume License Server window opens.

Note The server must be running in order to use the RF Recording Software application.
  17. Launch NI License Manager.
  18. Click Network Licenses and select Manage volume license servers link.
  19. Enter the computer name for your volume license server (you can use localhost because the server is running on the same system) and click OK.
  20. After the connection is established, you should see the licenses listed in the NI License Manager window.
The licensing is set up and the software is ready to run.
  21. Close the NI License Manager and NI Volume License Manager windows. The NI Volume License Manager server will continue to run in the background and automatically starts again when the system reboots.
