Complete the following steps to backward annotate changes made in Ultiboard:

  1. From Ultiboard, select Transfer»Backward annotate to Multisim»Backward annotate to Multisim 14.1. A Save As dialog box appears.
  2. Save the file as a Multisim 14 (*.ewnet) file.

    The Backward Annotation dialog box appears, listing the differences between Schematic and Layout (Multisim and Ultiboard).

    In most cases, you will accept the changes shown in the Action in Schematic column as they appear. If the OK button is disabled, there are actions that you must perform in the dialog box.

      During Backward Annotation, any pin names that appear in the dialog box are the Multisim pin names.

      If you are annotating a file that includes variants, the Variants Filter dialog box appears in this step.

      Some actions, such as changing the RefDes of a part, may cause DRC errors in Ultiboard. Fix these errors before back annotating.

  3. Optionally, make changes in the Difference column. This may generate more differences and actions.

    If there are any differences that require your attention (that is, conflicts), the OK button is disabled, and the conflicts are marked Input required in the Status column.

    You must resolve these before you can continue.

      Select a Difference to see a more detailed description in the Additional information field at the bottom of the dialog box.

    You can correct or ignore each difference via the Action in Schematic column.

  4. Select the desired actions from the Action in Schematic column and click OK. The Backward Annotation dialog box closes and the Multisim design is updated to reflect the changes.

    The options that appear in the Action in Schematic column depend on the differences that are found during annotation.

    For example, you may have added a part in Ultiboard. In this case, a message similar to *Add U1 as ... appears in the Action in Schematic column. Select this to display the Select a Component dialog box, browse to the desired Multisim component, and click OK. Your selection appears in the Action in Schematic column. Or, select Ignore to prevent the Difference from being back annotated.

    Once you make a change the Status column changes to Modified .

    Along with changing the Action in Schematic, you can also change the Difference. For example, if you transfer a schematic to Ultiboard, change R2 to R3, and then back annotate to Multisim, a Difference of RefDes appears. In this example, if you select Component R3 in layout is not component R2 in schematic... more differences and their corresponding actions in the schematic appear in the Backward Annotation dialog box.

    Results appear in the Results tab of the Spreadsheet View. Ignored changes are labelled with a green arrow. Double-click on a green arrow to highlight and zoom to its ignored change, or right-click and select Go to.

      There may be times when a number of differences require the same action. In this case, you can select multiple rows by holding down <Ctrl> or <Shift> and selecting the differences. When you do this, any common actions or differences display. Select the desired action once by clicking on the down-arrow for any of the selected Differences in the Action in Schematic column. The action is applied to all of the selected differences.

      Use the Export to file button to create a log file that lists the contents of the Backward Annotation dialog box in .csv format. This file is easily imported into a spreadsheet.

      There is a special conflict (HB/SC Inconsistency) that appears in the Status column if you add or delete a part in a hierarchical block or subcircuit that is used more than once in the design.
