Notice To avoid damage from electrostatic discharge (ESD) or contamination, handle the module only by its edges or the metal bracket.
  1. Ensure that the AC power source is connected to the chassis before installing the module.
The AC power cord grounds the chassis and protects it from electrical damage while you install the module.
  2. Power off the chassis.
  3. Inspect the slot pins on the chassis backplane for any bends or damage prior to installation. Do not install a module that has a damaged backplane.
  4. Position the chassis to ensure that nothing obstructs the inlet vents and outlet vents.
For more information about optimal chassis positioning, refer to the chassis documentation.
  5. Remove the black plastic covers from all the captive screws on the module front panel.
  6. Identify a supported slot in the chassis. You can place the PXIe-5413 module in the following slot types.
    • PXI Express hybrid peripheral slots ().
    • PXI Express system timing slots ().
    • PXI Express peripheral slots ().
  7. Touch any metal part of the chassis to discharge static electricity.
  8. Ensure that the ejector handle is in the downward (unlatched) position.

  9. Place the module edges into the module guides at the top and bottom of the chassis. Slide the module into the slot in full.
  10. Latch the module in place by pulling up on the ejector handle.
  11. Secure the module front panel to the chassis using the front-panel mounting screws.
Note Attach all front panel screws to the PXI chassis to ensure that all backplane connectors are fully mated. Tightened top and bottom mounting screws increase mechanical stability. Increased mechanical stability also electrically connects the front panel to the chassis that can improve the signal quality and electromagnetic performance.
  12. Cover all empty slots using filler panels (standard or EMC). Alternatively, use slot blockers with filler panels.
Note For more information about installing slot blockers and filler panels, go to slot blocker documentation.
