When power failure occurs, an intermediate uninterruptible power supply (UPS) buffers the power supply for the PXI. Configure UPS to prevent data loss when a power failure occurs. The UPS provides sufficient power so that the PXI can shut down properly.

UPS is not necessary if the power grid is already protected against failure by a central UPS.

The program chkusv appears when the PXI starts. The program monitors the status of the UPS. The program shuts down the PXI if necessary.

Serial interface connection sources from the UPS to the PXI are supported.

Configuring a UPS Serial Device

Complete the following steps to configure a UPS serial device:

  1. Right-click the Hardware folder and select Add item.
    The configuration window appears.
  2. For IdRef, select UPSSerialDevice.
  3. For shutdowntime, enter the time between detecting a power failure and shutting down the PXI.
    Enter a time in seconds.
  4. For device, enter the absolute path to the serial interface.
    For example, enter /dev/ser1.
  5. Enable the Activated status.
