The message signal contains the data for transmission.
The message signal is used to modulate the carrier wave to create the modulated wave for transmission. The message signal data is recovered from the modulated wave by a process of demodulation.
The message signal is often referred to as the baseband signal.
Related Information
- Carrier Wave
The carrier wave is a sinusoidal wave that is modulated by a message signal prior to transmission.
- Modulation
Modulation is a process that alters the characteristics of a carrier wave according to information in the message signal to generate and transmit a modulated wave. There are several different types of modulation.
