The Real-Time target runs the NI Linux Real-Time operating system. The real-time platform running on the RT target defines the features supported by the target.

Target Configuration and Properties

You can use the NI Measurement & Automation Explorer to configure network settings, install software, and configure multiple Ethernet devices for an RT PXI target. Refer to the Measurement & Automation Explorer Help for information about installing software on the target. Right-click the RT target and select Properties from the shortcut menu to open the RT target Properties dialog box. You can set the name, set the IP address, enable the VI and Web Server, set access privileges, and set other miscellaneous settings for an RT target.
Note If you change the settings of an RT target in the RT target Properties dialog box, you must deploy the settings to the target.

Deploying RT Target Settings

When you change the settings of an RT target in the target Properties dialog box, the settings persist in the project but do not propagate to the target until you deploy the target. To deploy the target, right-click the RT target in the Project Explorer window and select Deploy from the shortcut menu.

Connecting and Disconnecting from the Target

You can open a front panel connection with an RT target in a project. To connect to the target, right-click the RT target and select Connect from the shortcut menu. To disconnect, right-click the RT target and select Disconnect.

The status of the RT target is represented by an icon on the Project Explorer window, as shown in the following table.

Table 1. RT Target Status
RT Target Connected icon An open front panel connection exists with the RT target.
RT Target Not Connected icon No front panel connection exists with the RT target.
