Customizing How Front Panels Display on the Embedded UI

For some applications, it may be convenient to customize how front panels display on the embedded UI. These customizations are useful if you want to create an end user experience that focuses only on the front panel and its functionality. For example, you may want to display the front panel full-screen to hide the desktop, remove unwanted LabVIEW objects such as title bars and menus from the screen, or prevent end users from switching away from the front panel.
Setting a Front Panel to Display Full-Screen
Complete the following steps to display front panels full-screen on the embedded UI, so they match the resolution of the display device connected to the RT target:
- In LabVIEW, select File»VI Properties to open the VI Properties dialog box.
- Select Window Size from the Category pull-down menu.
- Specify Width and Height to match the screen resolution of the display device connected to the RT target.
- Select Window Run-Time Position from the Category pull-down menu.
- Select Centered from the Position pull-down menu.
- Disable the Use Current Panel Size checkbox and specify Width and Height to match the screen resolution of the display device connected to the RT target.
- Click OK to save your changes.
When you run and view the VI on the RT target, the front panel matches the resolution of the display device.
Removing LabVIEW Objects from the Front Panel
Complete the following steps to remove unwanted LabVIEW objects, such as title bars and menus, from the front panel of a VI:
- In LabVIEW, select File»VI Properties to open the VI Properties dialog box.
- Select Window Appearance from the Category pull-down menu.
- Enable the Custom button, and then click Customize to open the Customize Window Appearance dialog box.
- Specify the options you want to remove from the front panel based on your application needs.
- Click OK to close the Customize Window Appearance dialog box.
- Click OK to save your changes.
When you run and view the VI on the RT target, the front panel displays a custom set of objects.
Removing Embedded UI Elements from Displaying
Complete the following steps to remove unwanted embedded UI elements from displaying. Examples of embedded UI elements include desktop icons that open the Xfce file manager, terminal emulator, and display settings.
- Place a System Exec VI on the block diagram of the RT target VI, outside of time-critical loops.
- Specify the System Exec VI to run the following command: hidepanel
When you run and view the VI on the RT target, Xfce elements do not display on screen.
