Configuring Shared Variables Interactively

You can configure shared variables interactively by using the Shared Variable Properties dialog box where you can edit the shared variable properties, such as logging, update deadband, alarming, scaling, initial value, description, and security, for network-published shared variables only.
Complete the following steps to configure a shared variable interactively:
- Right-click a shared variable in the Project Explorer window and select Properties from the shortcut menu to display the Shared Variable Properties dialog box.

Select one of the following options in the listbox of the Shared
Variable Properties dialog box to display the properties that
you want to edit:
- Logging—Displays properties that describe logging resolution, logging deadband, and other logging settings for a shared variable.
- Update Deadband—Displays properties that describe the deadband ranges for a shared variable.
- Alarming—Displays properties that describe abnormal process conditions for a given shared variable.
- Scaling—Displays properties that describe which scaling function to apply to a shared variable value.
- Initial Value—Displays properties that describe the initial values for a shared variable.
- Description—Displays properties that describe a shared variable.
- Security—Displays properties that describe security settings for a shared variable.
- After deploying the shared variable, use the Distributed System Manager to test the shared variable configuration and make sure you are reading and writing data properly with servers. Select Tools»Distributed System Manager to launch the System Manager.
