The Multisim database contains some components that have been marked obsolete by some manufacturers. When available, this information is displayed prior to placement from the Select a Component dialog box.
While one manufacturer may have discontinued a component, a replacement may exist or it may still be available from another manufacturer.
Consult the manufacturer's website to obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information about component availability.
If a selected component in the Select a Component dialog box has been marked obsolete by a manufacturer, an Obsolescence information link displays at the bottom of the dialog box.
Complete the following steps to view more information about the obsolete component:
- Click the Obsolescence information link. The Component Obsolescence dialog box appears.
- The dialog includes a list of links to manufacturers that have marked the component obsolete.
Click on a link to go to the manufacturer's web site, where you can search for component information and suggested replacements.
- For some components, Manufacturer suggested replacement(s) are also listed in the Component Obsolescence dialog box.
Select a suggested replacement and click Go to selection to close the Component Obsolescence dialog box and select the suggested replacement in the Select a Component dialog box.
Replacements are listed for reference only as many replacements have small changes in their functionality or packaging. Depending on your design requirements, the listed replacement may not be valid. Check with the manufacturer's specifications before using a replacement component in a design. National Instruments does not guarantee that the replacement link will be valid for your design.
The Obsolescence information link also displays in the General tab of an obsolete component's Component Properties dialog box, which is used when you are are editing the component in the database. However, when the Component Obsolescence dialog box is accessed from here, the Go to Selection button is not available.
