Overview

The Inverter Test System Software Toolkit adds additional testing tools to TestStand and VeriStand, providing high-speed MathWorks Simulink® and low-latency FPGA integration, template configurations in VeriStand, and instrument drivers for all NI instruments used with the ITS-16200. The Inverter Test System Software Toolkit also provides examples such as VeriStand projects.

Required Software

The following software is required for the Inverter Test System Software Toolkit:

  • NI Package Manager
  • LabVIEW 2020 SP1 (32-bit)
  • VeriStand 2020 R6
  • OPAL-RT Power Electronics Add-On for VeriStand 1.10
  • The MathWorks Simulink® 2020a
  • The MathWorks Simscape Electrical™

Refer to the documentation of each software product for specific system requirements.

Supported Operating Systems

The Inverter Test System Software Toolkit supports Windows 10 (64-bit).

Application Software Support

The Inverter Test System Software Toolkit supports the following application software versions, including service packs.

Application SoftwareVersions Supported by the Inverter Test System Software Toolkit
LabVIEW 2020 SP1 (32-bit only)

Installation Instructions

Download the Inverter Test System Software Toolkit installer from ni.com/downloads. NI software includes NI Package Manager to handle the installation. Refer to the NI Package Manager Manual for more information about installing, removing, and upgrading NI software using NI Package Manager.

Note  NI recommends installing the Inverter Test System Software Toolkit via the Inverter Test System Software Suite installer, available from ni.com/downloads. Refer to the Inverter Test System Software Suite Readme for Inverter Test System Software Suite installation instructions.

Installing Software Components

Complete the following tasks to install software to enable you to deploy a Simulink model to a target.

Installing MinGW64

  1. Refer to the SOURCEFORGE website at sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/files/Toolchains%20targetting%20Win64/ to download and run MinGW-W64-install.exe.
  2. Follow the prompts to install MinGW64. When prompted, specify the following setup settings:
    1. Version: Latest
    2. Architecture: x86_64
    3. Threads: win32
    4. Exception: sjlj
    5. Build revision: 0

Installing Eclipse 2017

Visit ni.com/r/c-devtools-2017-download to download and install the C/C++ Development Tools 2017 package.

Installing the System Target File

Perform this setup only once to register the NI LinuxRT Target.

  1. Launch MathWorks MATLAB® 2020a.
  2. Change directories into %Public%\Documents\NI\Inverter Test System\Matlab 2020a\Bus Interface\.
  3. Execute the createBusInterface.m file. You can now configure Bus Selector blocks to read and write to the bus in order to communicate with the Inverter Test System.

Product Security and Critical Updates

Visit ni.com/security to view and subscribe to receive security notifications about NI products. Visit ni.com/critical-updates for information about critical updates from NI.

Supported Hardware

Refer to the ITS-16200 User Manual, accessible from ni.com/manuals, for information about the hardware models supported by the Inverter Test System Software Toolkit.

Accessing the Documentation

You can access Inverter Test System documentation and related content here.

For detailed pin map information representing the default configuration as delivered from NI, refer to the %Public%\Documents\NI\Inverter Test System\Hardware Templates directory.

Note   To view PDFs, you need to have a PDF viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. You can install the viewer from www.adobe.com/reader.

Finding Templates

The Inverter Test System Software Toolkit includes a variety of templates to help you learn key concepts or to serve as a starting point for applications you create. Launch the template appropriate for your configuration from the VeriStand Home Screen.

Automating the Installation of NI Products

You can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes.

If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.6.2, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.6.2 separately before you install NI software.

For more information about automating the installation of NI products, refer to Automating an Installer in the NI Package Manager manual.

Using NI Software with Microsoft Windows 10

Microsoft Windows 10 is the latest version of the Windows operating system and features significant changes compared to previous versions. Windows 10 introduces several new capabilities and also combines features from both Windows 7 and Windows 8. For more information about NI support for Windows 10, visit ni.com/windows10.
