PXIe-8394 permette di creare sistemi PXI multicassis che si interfacciano con lo stesso computer. È possibile utilizzare PXIe-8394 per collegare fino a otto chassis PXI allo stesso computer di sistema, che può essere un controller PXI o un PC collegato a un dispositivo per il controllo remo to di PXI. È inoltre possibile estendere il sistema PXI collegando RAID array, dispositivi SDR (Software Defined Radio) e SDR riconfigurabili.
