Multi-chassis systems require cabling for MXI, reference clock, and trigger/synchronization connections. Skip this step for 1-, 2-, and 4-channel systems.

Gather the following components to connect your multi-chassis system.

Complete the following steps. Refer to the cabling diagrams for more information.

  1. Connect the PXIe-8394 module in the master chassis in a star configuration to the PXIe-9398 modules in the slave chassis with 3M Gen 3 X4 MXI cables, as shown in the following figures.

  2. Connect the reference clocks:
    • For 8-channel systems, connect the PXIe-6674T modules through a 2-way passive splitter, as shown in the following figure.
Figure 11. Connecting the Reference Clock Signals (8-Channel System)

    • For 16-channel systems, connect the PXIe-6674T modules through the CDA-2990 synchronized signal distribution device, as shown in the following figure.

  3. Connect the PFI (trigger) signals:
    • For 8-channel systems, connect the PXIe-6674T modules through a 2-way passive splitter, as shown in the following figure.
Figure 13. Connecting the Trigger Signals (8-Channel System)

    • For 16-channel systems, connect the PXIe-6674T modules through the CDA-2990 synchronized signal distribution device, as shown in the following figure.
