Access the Users area to create new users, update existing user information, and assign users to user groups.

Note You must have administrator privileges to access the Users area.

Only users configured in the data source can open the database.

Edit User Information

You can update existing user information, including the email address, password, and login name. You can also re-assign users to a different user group.

Note Each user must be a member of at least one user group. If the user is a member of more than one user group, PAconfigurator launches with the group that is set as default. Switching to another user group is then possible after startup.

The read and write permissions for specific objects in the data source then result from the personal permissions combined with the permissions of the current user group.

On the All Users tab, select the desired user and click the Edit button.

Tip Use the search field to quickly find the user by name or email.

In the tab that appears for the user, update the desired user information. Click Save.

Creating Users

  1. On the All Users tab, click New User.
  2. Enter the personal information for the user.
  3. Optional: Add a description for the user.
  4. Enable Activate account to give the user access to PAconfigurator.
Note If a user account is not active, this user cannot start PAconfigurator. If you deactivate a previously active user account, objects in the database owned by that user remain associated with that user.
  5. Enter credentials for the user.
    1. In the Login Name field, enter the login name for the new user. Choose between the following login names:
      • (Recommended) Windows login credentials. This is the default login. If you enter the Windows login name of the new user, no password is required when the new user starts the PAconfigurator.
      • Database login. With this form of login, the user must always enter a password and a login name when starting the PAconfigurator. This way of logging in is not as secure as the Windows login option.
Note The login name is the name that appears when editing the user groups.
    2. Optional: In the Password field, enter the password database login password for the user. These two fields are only required if you do not want to log in using the Windows login name.
Note Passwords are case-sensitive. You cannot copy the password from the Password field into the Confirm password field. Make sure that only the desired user receives the password.
  6. Assign a user group.
    1. Select at least one of the displayed User Groups.
    2. Enable the Default field for exactly one of the assigned groups to specify the default user group for the user. PAconfigurator starts for this user with this user group.
  7. Click Save.
The new user appears in the list on the All Users tab.

User Data Transfer From Previous Versions

If you upgrade a PAtools database from a previous version to PAtools 8.0 or later, the data stored in the user administration is transferred. The additional fields that are mandatory in the new version but were not present in the older version remain empty.

You can continue to operate the database in this state without any restrictions. However, if you want to change data of a user for whom the new mandatory fields are still empty, you must make entries here. Otherwise you cannot save the changed user data.
