Configuring General Settings

General settings determine volume license server start-up state, NI VLM server ports, administrator contact information, backup location, group settings, permission request settings, and VLA Log settings.
Server Settings
- Start volume license server on system start—Select Yes to start the volume license server when the system starts.
- Main Licensing Port—You may need to change the Main Licensing Port if you are running other
volume license servers on this computer or have a firewall enabled or any other
application is using currently configured ports.Note You will need to set up client machines to point to the new port.
- Communication Port—You may need to change the Communication Port if you have a firewall enabled or any other application is using currently configured ports.
Administrator Information
- Administrator Information—Enter administrator information, including full name, email, phone, and URL. This information is included in any Volume License Installers you create and is presented to clients in NI License Manager. The email address you specify here also is used if you choose to copy the administrator when emailing clients.
Backup and Restore
- Default Backup Location—Set the default location to store NI VLM backup files. It is recommended that you change the path to a network location or a removable drive. This setting is used by the Backup and Restore Wizard.
Groups
- Visibility—Select whether group visibility should be a system-wide setting. You can select Public, Private, or Set Individually. This setting is used while managing groups.
- Permission Request Handling—Select whether group permission request handling should be a system-wide setting. You can select Automatic, Manual, or Set Individually. This setting is used in Handling Permission Requests.
Miscellaneous Settings
- Automatically handle legacy permission requests—Select Yes to allow NI VLM to handle legacy permission requests automatically. Legacy permission requests are those generated by Volume License Installers created with NI VLM 2.x or earlier.
- Automatically handle client information-only requests—Select Yes to allow NI VLM to handle permission requests that include only client information.
- Automatically send VLA Log to NI—Select Yes to automatically send the VLA Log to NI, as necessary. The VLA Log contains usage information of NI VLM-controlled software, such as check-in and check-out events, along with relevant client information. If select No, you will need to regularly send your VLA Log to NI in accordance with your license agreement.
