Automatically add third-party assets.
  1. Connect the asset to a managed system.
  2. Install the appropriate drivers for the asset.
  3. Install NI VISA.
SystemLink automatically adds the asset and tracks the location of the asset when you move it to another managed system.
Note SystemLink can only automatically track third-party assets that are SCPI compliant and respond to a *IDN? command in the format manufacturer, model, serial number, firmware. manufacturer, model, and serial number are required and cannot be empty. For devices that are not Plug and Play, you must click Scan for Instruments in NI MAX before SystemLink can detect your device. This ensures that the resulting *IDN? request does not interrupt any test operations without direct user intervention.
Manually add assets.
  1. In the SystemLink web application, click System Management » Systems and double-click the system you want to add an asset to.
  2. On the Assets tab, click Add asset.
  3. Enter a unique name and other identifying information for the asset.
Note Ensure that you enter the correct vendor, model, and serial number when adding the asset. This information makes the asset easier to identify when the asset is connected to a system. Having distinguishing information is also useful if you are adding an unused NI device to an unmanaged location for the first time.
  4. For Location, select a system from the drop-down or enter the name of a physical location.
  5. Enable Supports external calibration to configure and to manage calibration for this asset manually.
  6. Specify the appropriate properties and keywords for any queries you want the asset to appear in.
  7. Click OK.
