In Operation mode, you can select a mode to charge or discharge a battery. You can also select a pause, set the DC output off, or activate pulse block.

Current (SEQ)

In this mode, the setpoint is a current value.

The fields U max [V] and U min [V] specify a voltage range in volts, as a number or variable, within which the DUT is to be operated.

Note If you do not set a value for U max or U min, the system uses the values from the DUT<application>_LimitsParaSet.STB file. For more information, refer to Operating Limits (Switchable, Static).

Specify the maximum step time using the Hold time [s] field.

If you do not enter a value in the Hold time [s] field, charging or discharging continues. Charging or discharging only stops when the conditions in Next step condition or Exit condition column are met.

If you enter conditions in Hold Time [s], Next step condition, and Exit condition, the step checks all conditions. The step ends when one condition is met. If you leave all fields empty, charging or discharging continues until you stop the step. The step also stops if an error occurs.

In the Setting Current field, select one of the values described in the following table.

Table 24. Setting Current Values
Value Description
I_Cha with DUT C-Rate The target current for charging step is calculated from the C-rate and nominal capacity parameterized in the DUT.

For example:

  • The nominal capacity is 120 Ah
  • The C-rate is 1/3
In this case, the target current is 40 A.
I_Dch with DUT C-Rate The target current for discharge step is calculated from the C-rate and nominal capacity parameterized in the DUT.

For example:

  • The nominal capacity is 120 Ah
  • The C-rate is 1/3
In this case, the target current is -40 A.
I_Setpoint Enter a desired setpoint current as a number or as a variable. If the value is positive, then charging occurs. If the value is negative, then discharging occurs.
I_Cha with User C-Rate Enter a desired C-rate as a positive number or as a variable with positive values. The nominal charge current is calculated from the nominal capacity and the entered C-rate.
I_DCh with User C-Rate Enter a desired C-rate as a positive number or as a variable with positive values. The discharge current is calculated from the nominal capacitance and the entered C-rate.

Power (SEQ)

In this mode, the setpoint is a power value.

Enter the desired power as a number or as a variable in one of the following fields:
  • Setpoint Power [kW] for battery packs and battery modules
  • Setpoint Power [W] for battery cells
If the value is positive, then it charges. If the value is negative, then discharging occurs.

Using U max [V] and U min [V], a voltage range in volts is specified within which the DUT operates. The voltage range is a number or a variable.

Pause (DC output off)

In this mode, set Pause (DC output off) in the DC cycler. In addition, the actual current becomes 0.

To indicate how long the pause lasts, enter a time in the Hold time [s] field.
