A net is split when a wire or connector is deleted in such a way that two or more net sections without any net segment between them are created. The net that will keep the original name is determined in the following priority:

1—When one of the resulting nets has at least one wire segment with at least one connector that has the name of the original net. In this case, the original net name is assigned to the net with the appropriate connector attached. Refer to the figure below.

2—When one resulting net has more pins than the other resulting net or nets, the original net name is assigned to the net with the most pins. Refer to the figure below.

3—When neither of the above conditions are met, the original net name is arbitrarily assigned to one of the nets resulting from the split.
