A snippet is a special .png image file that contains a picture of your design and information for all components in the snippet, including the symbol, model, package and connected nets. Use snippets to share your designs over the Internet, for example, by posting them on forums or sending them by email.

When you open a Multisim snippet .png file with image editing software, for example, Paint®, the version of Multisim in which the snippet was saved displays in a tab at the top of the image.

The tab also contains information on the type of Multisim snippet, as shown below:

Tab Description

Multisim selection snippet. The number reflects the version of Multisim the snippet was saved in. This type of snippet includes a section of a Multisim design.
Multisim PLD design snippet. The number reflects the version of Multisim the snippet was saved in. This type of snippet includes an entire Multisim PLD design.

If you save a Multisim snippet .png file with image editing software, that software removes the Multisim-specific data from the .png file. If you then attempt to open the .png file in Multisim, an error message displays stating that the selected file is not a valid snippet. To avoid losing the Multisim-specific data, do not save the .png file with image editing software. If you need to save a snippet using image editing software, save it with a different name.

Drag-and-drop will usually not work from image websites because these websites typically do some form of image processing. In some cases the download image option will result in the snippet being incorrectly downloaded. We recommend that you create a sample snippet and test your image on the website for these limitations.

Internet Explorer will not allow drag-and-drop if the website is not in the trusted site list. Either add the website to your trusted site list or download the file before opening it. Ensure that the file is saved as a .png file. Some versions of Internet Explorer will automatically change it to a .bmp file, losing the snippet information.

Some email providers strip out the snippet data if you send the images through their website. The image will send but the Multisim-specific data will be gone. We recommend that you create a sample snippet and send it via your email provider to see if this limitation applies.
