You can use the RefDes Setup dialog box to assign a unique numbering system for each individual subcircuit, hierarchical blocks or multi-pages within the same Multisim design.
This is useful when identifying components in a large design.
Complete the following steps to set up renaming parameters:
- Select Tools»Advanced RefDes configuration.
The Advanced RefDes Configuration dialog box displays.
- Click RefDes setup.
The RefDes Setup dialog box displays.
- Edit the following as required:
Element Description Design tree This area displays all sheets of the design. It includes top level sheets, sub-circuits, hierarchical blocks and multi-pages.
When the RefDes Setup dialog box first displays, the arrow beside each sheet points downward. Once a sheet has been selected using Use RefDes prefix and offset the arrow points to the right.
Use RefDes prefix and offset Select the desired sheet and enable this checkbox.
The arrow icon for the selected sheet points to the right. Prefix and Offset are enabled.
Prefix Enter the desired prefix to use for all reference designators on the selected sheet. Only letters are permitted.
Prefixes of instrument reference designators are not renamed but the offset will be used.
Offset This is the starting number that all reference designators on the selected sheet use. For example, if you enter 10, the first resistor on the sheet will be R10, the first capacitor will be C10, and so on.
Only numbers are permitted.
