Formatting Your Remote Target

You can format some target hard drives from within MAX. If your target supports formatting from MAX, you can select Format Disk from the right-click context menu. If this option does not appear, your target does not support this feature and you must use a Desktop PC Utility USB Drive.

Complete the following steps to reformat your hard drive:

  1. Reboot your target into user-directed safe mode. Refer to your target documentation for more information on rebooting into safe mode.
  2. Right-click on your target and select Format Disk.
  3. If your target supports more than one file system, select the file system you want to use. Reliance is the preferred file system for real-time targets, if available for selection, because it prevents data loss due to file system corruption. (RT Linux) UBIFS is the only file system available on RT Linux targets.
Note Note  If you format your target using the Reliance file system, you will no longer be able to dual-boot into either Windows or LabVIEW Real-Time from the same partition on your hard drive. Instead, you will have to create a partition for each operating system.
  4. Confirm that you want to format your target.
Caution Caution  Formatting your target drive will destroy all data on the LabVIEW Real-Time partition of the drive. For dual-boot controllers, the non-LabVIEW Real-Time partition will not be formatted.

Your target will reboot when formatting is complete.

Note Note  If you have trouble formatting your target, visit ni.com/info and enter targetdiskformat.
