You can configure alarming for network-published shared variables only. Enable network publishing for a shared variable before you configure alarming for this shared variable.

Complete the following steps to configure alarms for Boolean shared variables:

  1. Right-click a Boolean shared variable in the Project Explorer window and select Properties from the shortcut menu to display the Shared Variable Properties dialog box.
  2. Select Alarming to display the Alarming page.
  3. On the Alarming page, place a checkmark in the Enable Alarming checkbox.
  4. In the Alarms section, place a checkmark in the appropriate cell of the Enabled column for the type of alarm you want to enable.
  5. Enter the name of the alarm in the appropriate cell of the Name column.
  6. If you enabled the Boolean alarm, set the cell in the Alarm On column to Low to configure the shared variable to be in an alarm state when the value is FALSE. Set the cell to High to configure the shared variable to be in an alarm state when the value is TRUE.
  7. In the appropriate cell of the Priority column, enter a priority for the alarm. The priority level can be 1–1,000, where 1,000 is the highest priority.
  8. In the appropriate cell of the Ack Type column, select an acknowledging type.
  9. In the appropriate cell of the Area column, enter a name for the area to which the alarm belongs.
  10. In the appropriate cell of the Description column, enter a description of the alarm.
  11. In the appropriate cell of the Log? column, place a checkmark in the checkbox to log alarm information to the database.
  12. Click the OK button to close the Shared Variable Properties dialog box.
Note You also can configure some attributes of alarms for Boolean shared variables by using the Distributed System Manager. Ack, Description, and Set are alarm status. You cannot configure these status by using the System Manager.
