The carrier module maps fixed channel resources to interface adapter module resources based on slot position.

Installing an interface adapter module maps the fixed channel resources of the carrier to the unique resources on the interface adapter module. This mapping links the front panel I/O ports to carrier resources such as GPIO, video, and power over coax. The architecture enables reusable applications across different interface adapter module combinations.

The following examples present hypothetical interface adapter modules and explain how this mapping occurs.

Example 1: Interface Adapter Module with Two Dual Input Deserializers

Use this example with the following interface adapter modules:
  • DS90UB988 FPD-Link deserializer
Note PoC implementation varies across interface adapter modules. For more information, refer to the Sideband Protocols section.

In this example, the interface adapter module includes two dual input deserializers. The figure labels the deserializers Deserializer 0 and Deserializer 1.
  • Deserializer 0 uses the first two carrier channels according to the slot position where it is installed.
    • When the interface adapter module is installed in Slot 1, the channels correspond to carrier channel 0 and carrier channel 1.
    • When the interface adapter module is installed in Slot 2, the channels correspond to carrier channel 4 and carrier channel 5.
  • Deserializer 1 uses the last two carrier channels.
    • When the interface adapter module is installed in Slot 1, the channels correspond to carrier channel 2 and carrier channel 3.
    • When the interface adapter module is installed in Slot 2, the channels correspond to carrier channel 6 and carrier channel 7.
The interface adapter module in this example also includes two dual port front panel connectors. The serial interfaces are inputs to the device. These signals are serial inputs, or SI.
  • The first two serial inputs map to Deserializer 0 on the interface adapter module.
  • The last two serial inputs map to Deserializer 1 on the interface adapter module.
Note The serial inputs in this example interface adapter module support Power over Coax (PoC). Unlike the video and GPIO channel resources, the mapping of PoC channel resources is fixed. The slot in which the interface adapter module is installed determines the mapping of PoC channel resources.
  • When the interface adapter module is installed in Slot 1, the first serial input maps to carrier channel 0, the second serial input maps to carrier channel 1, and so on.
  • When the interface adapter module is installed in Slot 2, the first serial input maps to carrier channel 4, the second serial input maps to carrier channel 5, and so on.
Note The interface adapter module might not use all of the available channel resources. In this example, the dual deserializer might only use one reference clock, even though two reference clocks are available.

Example 2: Interface Adapter Module with Two Dual Output Serializers

Use this example with the following interface adapter modules:
  • DS90UB981 FPD-Link serializer
