Set up the RF recording hardware components in the PXI chassis and install other components in the hardware rack.

Complete the following tasks before installing, configuring, or operating the components included in the system.
  • Review the safety and compliance documentation for each component in the system. Refer to Related Documentation for links to relevant documentation for the individual components in the system.
  • Assemble the tools needed for installation.
Complete the following steps while referring to the component placement table for your system configuration.
  1. Optional: Install the PXI chassis in the rack.
  2. Set up the PXIe chassis according to the PXIe-1095 User Manual.
  3. Install the PXIe controller in the PXIe chassis and configure as a Windows OS controller, as detailed in the PXIe-8881 Getting Started.
  4. Install the VST instrument(s) in the PXIe chassis and configure, as detailed in the PXIe-5841 Getting Started.
  5. Install other PXI instruments in the PXIe chassis as required for your system configuration.

  6. Install slot blockers and slot covers in unused PXI slots to ensure proper cooling. Refer to the PXIe-8881 Getting Started to ensure adequate chassis cooling and ventilation.
  7. If you are configuring an 8- or 16-channel remote record system, repeat steps 1 through 6 for additional PXIe chassis.
  8. If you are configuring an 8- or 16-channel remote record system, install the synchronized signal distribution device in the rack according to the OctoClock CDA-2990 Getting Started Guides.
  9. If you are configuring a remote record system, install the data storage computer in the rack according to the Dell PowerEdge R7525 Installation and Service Manual.

Note For systems with a PXIe-5841 and PXIe-7903, ensure that the modules are placed in slots close enough to allow for the 1 m OCuLink x4 Cable length.

* For a 2-channel local record system, each VST and each RAID must exist on different PCIe switches to enable maximum data rates. Each PCIe switch on the backplane of the PXIe-1095 chassis handles 5 GB/s to the controller and 5 GB/s from the controller. If they are not on separate switches, data is overwritten before it is written to disk.
