Installing TestStand Unattended over SSH

Run a non-interactive TestStand installation from CI/CD or over SSH when required dependencies are already available.
Use this procedure to install TestStand without local user interaction.
Before you begin, confirm the following conditions:
- The target machine can access required dependencies through the internet or a configured local package repository.
- If the machine is air-gapped or restricted, required packages are already installed or staged from a machine that uses the same operating system and version as the target machine.
- You can run commands as root or use a deploy account with non-interactive sudo.
No monitor, desktop session, or X forwarding is required because the installer creates its own off-screen display.
-
Open an SSH session on the target machine and change to the directory that contains the installer.
chmod +x <Output Directory>/LINUX_INSTALL
Where <Output Directory> is the TestStand Deployment/Distribution folder by default.
-
Run the installer with the user name.
sudo <Output Directory>/LINUX_INSTALL --user <username> --accept-eulas
-
Wait for the installer to finish without interrupting the session.
The installer runs as a single non-interactive command. If a required package is unavailable, the installer fails instead of prompting for input.
-
Check the command exit code and review the installation log if the installation fails.
A return code of 0 indicates success. A nonzero return code indicates failure. Progress and error details are written to /tmp/ni_teststand/install.log.
