Overview

This document contains the <product> <version> known issues that were discovered before and since the release of <product> <version>. Known issues are performance issues or technical bugs that NI has acknowledged exist within this version of the product.

Not every issue known to NI appears on this list; it is intended to show the most severe and common issues that you may encounter and provide workarounds when possible. Other technical issues that you may encounter could occur through normal product use or system compatibility issues.

LabVIEW 8.2 provides some support for Macintosh computers with Intel processors.

LabVIEW 8.2 for Mac OS is built as a Universal binary and therefore can run natively on both a PowerPC and an Intel Macintosh. The PowerPC was officially supported by National Instruments during the release of LabVIEW 8.2, while the Intel Mac version of LabVIEW was being released as a pioneer release, meaning that it was not extensively tested and National Instruments provided only minimal technical support. However, the Intel Mac version of LabVIEW 8.2 has passed most validation tests. This release of LabVIEW was intended for early adopters of the Mac/Intel machines to try out their applications and provide feedback or report any problems to National Instruments. You should not make any assumptions about support of LabVIEW 8.2 on Mac/Intel unless such support is officially announced in a future release.

The following are known issues you might encounter with LabVIEW 8.2:

  • All VIs shipped in LabVIEW 8.2 for Mac OS X are in PowerPC format, and you must recompile them for use with the Intel Mac version of LabVIEW. The Intel version of LabVIEW prompts you at launch to mass compile the LabVIEW directory. National Instruments recommends that you do this.
  • NI Example Finder runs as an emulated PowerPC process, under Rosetta, on an Intel Mac.
  • Shared variables do not work on the Intel Mac. They work only limitedly on PowerPC Mac.
  • The Sound VIs do not work on the Intel Mac in LabVIEW 8.2. They do work in LabVIEW 8.2.1.
  • Some pictures that you paste onto the front panel or block diagram are not visible. You can select the image by clicking on it, but the content remains invisible.
  • The Get File Type function returns the Apple file type and creator codes in reverse order.
