Description

National Instruments sound and vibration analysis tools include the NI Sound and Vibration Assistant - interactive software for quickly acquiring, analyzing, and logging data - and a collection of National Instruments LabVIEW functions and analysis VIs. The Sound and Vibration Assistant provides an innovative configuration-based approach to measurements using intuitive drag-and-drop steps. It combines the functionality of traditional noise and vibration analysis software with the ease of use of a data recorder. The software includes analysis functions for filtering, windowing, averaging, sound- and vibration-level trending, octave analysis, frequency response, power in band, total harmonic distortion, and Universal File Format (UFF58) file I/O.

For more flexibility and programmatic control of your application, you can use NI LabVIEW analysis VIs for sound and vibration. After acquiring signals from microphones, accelerometers, displacement probes, or tachometers, you can use the LabVIEW VIs and Express VIs to associate the acquired signal with characteristics such as sensor sensitivity, an engineering unit, or a dB reference. Signal processing functions include zoom fast Fourier transform (FFT), octave analysis, frequency response, swept-sine analysis, and short-time Fourier transform (STFT). In addition, you can perform order-based analysis such as order tracking, order extraction, and tachometer signal processing. The VIs perform the selected analysis and present the results with the appropriate engineering units in standard displays, such as magnitude/phase, real/imaginary part, or decibels on/off.

Applications include audio testing; acoustic measurements; environmental noise testing; vibration analysis; noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) measurements; noise and vibration control; machine condition monitoring; rotating machinery evaluation; and much more.
