NI-DAQmx Base Support for Mac OS X
NI-DAQmx Base driver software offers Mac OS X users a programming interface similar to NI-DAQmx measurement services software as well as increased ease-of-use in connecting with high-performance NI data acquisition hardware. NI-DAQ Support for Mac OS 9 and Previous
There are two current versions of NI-DAQ for Mac OS 9 and Previous: 6.6.1 and 4.9.4 (which ship together). The version you use depends on your computer hardware and on your DAQ Device. The rest of this page focuses on the difference between these two versions.

The Release Notes for each version of NI-DAQ for Mac OS contain information about the data acquisition (DAQ) hardware supported by that version of the driver. The download page for each driver has a link to the Release Notes for that driver, but you may also download the Release Notes from our Product Manuals Library.

NI-DAQ 6.6.1 | NI-DAQ 4.9.4

A history of NI-DAQ versions for the Macintosh is available, but here are the key points:

• NI-DAQ 6.1.3/4.9.3 for Mac OS was the first version of NI-DAQ to support the "blue and white" G3 Macintoshes. You must use NI-DAQ 6.1.3 (or higher) or NI-DAQ 4.9.3 (or higher), if you have one of these machines.
  
  
• NI-DAQ 6.1.4/4.9.4 for Mac OS was the first version of NI-DAQ to support the G4 "Sawtooth" motherboards. (Apple produces two G4 motherboard configurations, one of which is known as the "Sawtooth." The Sawtooth motherboard has an AGP port (Advanced Graphics Port) for the video card.) If you have a G4 Macintosh with a Sawtooth motherboard, then you must use NI-DAQ 6.1.4 (or higher) or NI-DAQ 4.9.4.
  
  
• NI-DAQ 6.1.4 for Mac OS was the first version of NI-DAQ to support PXI hardware.
  
  
• NI-DAQ 4.9.4 (or earlier) for Mac OS contains an API that will allow you to use programming environments other than LabVIEW (e.g., C) with your data acquistion hardware. NI-DAQ 6.1.4 (or higher) for Mac OS only supports LabVIEW as a programming environment.
  
  
• NuBus devices are not supported under NI-DAQ 6.x. You must use NI-DAQ 4.9.4 (or earlier), if you need to support NuBus data acquisition hardware.

NI-DAQ 6.6.1 for Mac OS
This is the most recent NI-DAQ version for G3 and G4 Macintoshes.

NI-DAQ 6.1.4
This version of NI-DAQ for Mac OS preceeded NI-DAQ 6.6.1. It is listed here for comparison purposes only. If your DAQ hardware is supported by NI-DAQ 6.6.1, then you should use that version instead.

NI-DAQ 4.9.4
This is the most recent NI-DAQ version for Macintoshes with 68000-series processors. If you have a 68000 Mac, you must use NI-DAQ 4.9.4 or earlier.

• NI-DAQ 4.9.4 supports all NuBus DAQ boards, as well as some PCI boards and DAQCards.
• NI-DAQ includes an API to support programming in LabVIEW and a wide range of other programming environments.
