Rapid Control Prototyping

"The LabVIEW development system with NI data acquisition (DAQ) hardware supplied all the tools needed to quickly design and develop a working system. The flexibility and portability of the written code facilitated implementation on different platforms like NI CompactRIO."

- E. Corti - Alma Automotive

Developing a Rapid Control Prototyping Platform for Implementing Advanced Engine Control Systems

A successful rapid control prototyping (RCP) platform should allow you to quickly test control models with real-world I/O so they can be quickly tweaked and refined. RCP platforms typically provide a method to import mathematical models and run them on a controller with a real-time operating system connected to real-world I/O. You can then test the models on a real engine or other component, or against a model of the vehicle or system on a simulator, known as hardware-in-the-loop simulation.

Additional Case Studies

A successful rapid control prototyping (RCP) platform removes the difficulties of interfacing with low-level I/O while enabling designers to test the most advanced control models with tight integration to NI LabVIEW and other modeling environments. NI RCP systems typically begin with a rugged NI CompactRIO embedded system or larger PXI system and the LabVIEW graphical system design environment.

Rapid Control Prototyping System Using NI CompactRIO

NI CompactRIO is ideal for rapid control prototyping, both in-vehicle and on engine test stands. Select the appropriate chassis, controller, and modules for your application and let the CompactRIO advisor recommend the necessary components and accessories to complete your system.

  • Customize your system by choosing only the components you need
  • Print an itemized list or visit the online store to purchase your system
  • Third-party modules are available from NI Alliance Partners for special needs
