OPC HVAC Application at NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS
National Instruments is successfully using OPC to monitor and control the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system at the company's corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas. The 232,000 square foot building houses engineering, marketing and administrative departments. OPC provides interoperability of real-time information between the building's HVAC system and operators using a PC-based system to monitor and control hundreds of measurement and control devices located throughout the five story facility. Measurement and control devices are connected into the HVAC system using Echelon LonWorks. National Instruments LabVIEW and the DSC Module communicate with the Siebe Environmental Controls HVAC system and LonWorks network through an OPC server. OPC provides an industry-standard way to share information from the building automation system with operators and technicians throughout the facility.
