LabVIEW - Built for Mac OS X

NI LabVIEW for Mac OS X is targeted for release by the end of 2002. The only I/O VIs you will be able to use with this version are VISA for multiple interfaces, along with GPIB VIs using the Ethernet-to-GPIB converter. However, NI will continue to support in Mac OS 9 all plug-in DAQ and GPIB boards currently available with LabVIEW 6.1. Our main effort for supporting the Macintosh will focus on a strategy more aligned with our long term vision for measurement and automation, and better aligned with Apple's vision of the computer as a digital hub. More specifically, we are developing a version of LabVIEW Real-Time that will be hosted on Mac OS X and target our networked PXI modular instrumentation platform.

We are pursuing this development effort in order to bring the broadest NI product line to the entire Mac community, including iMac and iBook users. With this version of LabVIEW, you will be able to easily develop distributed applications containing VIs that run real-time on the PXI controller and communicate with VIs running on your Mac host. While PXI will be the first platform you can use with Mac OS X, we envision a wide range of networked I/O options using this architecture, including smaller intelligent targets.

Your Macintosh will be the digital hub of your networked measurement and automation solution. We appreciate your continued support of National Instruments and are committed to providing quality measurement solutions for you. Please let us know if you have questions, concerns, or feedback by sending e-mail to mac@ni.com, and thanks again for using LabVIEW.
