NI Customer Experience Improvement Program

Updated: July 15, 2023

The Customer Experience Improvement Program was created to collect quantitative product usage data, giving NI users the ability to contribute to the design and development of NI products. This quantitative data supplements other direct customer feedback such as usability tests, surveys, focus groups, and other types of field research. Collectively, we use this information to design and improve products and customer experience.

Starting in 2023, some products will also use this information to provide suggestions to help you get more value from the products you use. These notifications will be delivered in-product while you are using NI software, and are tailored based on analysis of common usage patterns.

Collection of Information

When the Customer Experience Improvement Program is enabled, we collect anonymous information about the use of NI products, your computer or device, and connected devices. NI uses the aggregate of this information to improve the products and features customers use most often and to help solve problems. We do not collect personal data or proprietary application information, and we do not sell usage information to third parties.

Participation in the program is optional and anonymous. You can change the status of the Customer Experience Improvement Program at any point. There is a Customer Experience Improvement Program entry under National Instruments in the Windows Start Menu. You can also access this setting through the Help menu in some NI software products.

Customer Experience Improvement Program reports include the following information:

  • Computer information such as the OS that your computer is currently running, how many processors are in your computer, and how much memory is installed in the system.
  • Hardware and NI software configuration, such as the names of the local measurement hardware and NI software in the computer, the version of the software, the serial numbers associated with the software and hardware, and the language of the software.
  • NI software usage, such as the features that are used the most often, common problems encountered, and how frequently the software is used.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I benefit from participating in the Customer Experience Improvement Program?

Your participation in the NI Customer Experience Improvement Program leads to improved products that better reflect your use-cases by providing valuable information about product usage. Your participation helps ensure that you and your use-cases are represented (anonymously).

Additionally, starting in 2023, you may receive added benefit through tailored suggestions that will help you learn the products faster, discover new features relevant to your tasks, and ultimately increase the value you receive from your products.

How does the Customer Experience Improvement Program work?

Through the Customer Experience Improvement Program, your computer periodically sends information to NI about how you use certain products. An Internet connection is required for this process to complete successfully. We then process the data to gain important insights about products, features, and usage patterns.

Starting in 2023 for some products, we also process the data to identify features and suggestions that may benefit you. If there is a relevant suggestion or notification for you, that information will be delivered in-product while you are using NI software.

Will the Customer Experience Improvement Program collect information about all products on my computer?

The Customer Experience Improvement Program only collects information from select products. We do not capture information from non-NI software.

Will I be contacted or receive spam if I participate?

You will not receive emails or phone calls based on your participation in the Customer Experience Improvement Program.

Can I change my participation?

Yes. For any product with an option to participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program, you can choose to start or stop participating at any time. Most programs make Customer Experience Improvement Program options available from the Help menu, although for some products, you might need to check settings, options, or preferences menus. You can also navigate from the Windows Start Menu to All Programs » National Instruments » NI Customer Experience Improvement Program.

How does NI protect my privacy if I choose to participate?

NI does not collect personal data through the NI Customer Experience Improvement Program.  The anonymous usage information is transmitted through secure means over the web to NI.

Will any information be collected if I choose not to participate?

If you opt out, no in-product usage information will be collected through the Customer Experience Improvement Program. NI may still collect only information necessary to enforce the legal activation and use of its products. For more details, see the NI Privacy Statement.
