NI-VISA Features and Operating System Compatibility

Overview

This page shows supported features of the NI-VISA hardware driver with different operating systems. Reference this information to ensure the NI-VISA feature of interest is supported on your operating system, when upgrading or updating your operating system, or when migrating or porting code to a new system. Using incompatible versions may result in errors, the inability for your Operating System to recognize or detect and then find a driver for your device, or missing devices in Windows Device Manager or NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).

Supported Windows Operating Systems: Windows 11, Windows 10 (64-bit only), Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016

Supported Linux Operating Systems: Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Scientific Linux. Note: VISA TCP/IP resources cannot be added under NI Linux RT targets in MAX, they must be referenced programmatically in LabVIEW. 

Note: NI removed support for Phar Lap for cRIO in the NI 2020 Software Release and for PXI in the NI 2022 Software Release. For more information, please see the Phar Lap RT OS EOL Road Map.

Note: The utilities provided by NI-VISA are 32-bit only.
