61xx Models : DAQ Multifunction I/O Cable and Accessory Compatibility
Updated Feb 4, 2020
Use this guide to match your NI Multifunction I/O (MIO) 61xx models for PCI, PXI, and PXI Express (PXIe) with a compatible cable and accessory to meet the needs of your application, replacing or expanding your current configuration, or verifying that existing parts can be used in a different configuration.
NI Multifunction I/O (MIO) 61xx models (formerly referred to as NI S Series) are the previous generation of NI simultaneous sampling MIO (SMIO) DAQ hardware. They allow for analog, digital, and counter input and output through a variety of connectivity options.
Begin by using the following tables to locate your device or module. Once found, note your connector type, pin count, and any other notes for reference. Next, move to the Cable and Accessory Compatibility Tables.
Important Note: "Group" used in this context is solely to categorize devices together that use the same cables and accessories. It does not necessarily indicate similar functionality, specifications, or other commonalities between the devices.
Group 1: 68-Pin Simultaneous Sampling Multifunction I/O 61xx Models Device And Module
Identify your 68-pin SCSI 0.050 D-Type device or module, then click to jump to the compatibility table.
Find the compatibility table that matches the pin count and connector type of your device. If you have questions on terminology, refer to the Glossary. After you have identified the cable and accessory options for your device from this section, move to the Known Limitations and Issues List.
Note: To help keep the size down of the compatibility tables, the terms terminal block and connector block are used interchangeably.
Group 1: SCSI 68-Pin Simultaneous Sampling Multifunction I/O 61xx Models Device And Module
Use this table to identify compatible SCSI 0.050 D-Type cables and accessories.
1SCB-68A and BNC-2090A are newer designs recommended for all new applications over the SCB-68 and BNC-2090. 2TB-2705, TB-2708, and TB-2709 can only be attached directly to PXI modules front connector, and does not require a cable.
Group 2: VHDCI 68-Pin Simultaneous Sampling Multifunction I/O 61xx Models Device or Module
Use this table to identify compatible VHDCI cables and accessories.
1SCB-68A and BNC-2090A are newer designs recommended for all new applications over the SCB-68 and BNC-2090. 2TB-2706 can only be attached directly to PXI/PXI Express modules front connector, and does not require a cable. 3Please review Known Limitations and Issues List for information on using this custom connectivity cable.
This section is important to review because not every cable and accessory combination allows access to the full functionality of your NI DAQ simultaneous sampling Multifunction I/O 61xx device or module. This list contains notes about known limitations when using certain combinations of DAQ cables and accessories. If your device or cable is not listed in this section, there are no known exceptions for it.
Review this table to identify potential limitations and known issues with your module.
The NI 6124/6154 User Manual (August 2008), P/N 372613A-01, incorrectly lists SH68-* cables, which are SCSI 0.050 D-Type models. The correct shielded cable for this model is the VHDCI SHC68-68-EPM cable, as listed in this guide.
For VHDCI connections, NI recommends that you use the SHC68-68-EPM cable; however, an SH68-68-EP cable will work with NI Multifunction I/O 61xx Models. The SHC68-68-EPM cable is a newer design featuring additional shielding and specific cable pairings to improve noise performance.
The SHC68-C68-EPM can be used for any device or module for which the SHC68-68-EPM is recommended. The SHC68-C68-EPM is intended for custom breakout fixtures that use the VHDCI 0.8 mm connector. DAQ accessories only feature a SCSI 0.050 D-Type connector and will not work with this cable.
For SCSI 0.050 D-Type connections, NI recommends that you use the SH68-68-EPM cable; however, an SH68-68-EP cable will work with NI Multifunction I/O 61xx Models. The SH68-68-EPM cable is a newer design featuring additional shielding and specific cable pairings to improve noise performance.
Some functionality is unavailable when you use the SH68-50 cable with the NI 6110, 6111, 6122, 6123, 6132, or 6133 device or module. Refer to the S Series User Manual for more information.
Shielded Cable - A high performance cable solution that offers noise reduction through shielded conductors. Click here for an example.
Shielded Terminal Block or Connector Block - A high performance accessory solution offering very low-noise signal termination through shielding. Click here for an example.
Unshielded Terminal Block or Connector Block - An alternative low cost accessory solution that does not offer shielding. Click here for an example.
Very-High-Density Cable Interconnect (VHDCI) - An improvement on the SCSI 68-pin connector featuring .8 mm pin spacing, allowing a smaller footprint and fewer bent pins during connection. Click here for an example.
