63xx Models : DAQ Multifunction I/O Cable and Accessory Compatibility

Overview

Use this guide to match your NI Multifunction I/O (MIO) 63xx models PCI Express (PCIe), PXI Express (PXIe), or USB DAQ device with a compatible cable and accessory to meet the needs of your application, whether you are creating a new configuration, replacing or expanding your current configuration, or verifying that existing parts can be used in a different configuration.

NI Multifunction I/O (MIO) 63xx models (formerly referred to as NI X Series) are the current generation of NI MIO DAQ hardware. They allow for analog, digital, and counter input and output through a variety of connectivity options.

This page is part of the NI DAQ Multifunction I/O Cable and Accessory Compatibility Guide.

How to Use this Guide

It is important to work through this guide sequentially to identify and then pair up your device with compatible cables and accessories. To do this, complete the following steps:

  1. Find your module or device in the Device List.
  2. Use the Cable and Accessory Compatibility Tables to identify your device.
  3. Check the Known Limitations and Issues List for any known limitations you may encounter.
  4. Note: Using the page search functionality in your browser to locate your model may speed up this process, typically CTRL+F on Windows or ⌘+F on MacOS.

Note:
This guide does not cover USB 63xx DAQ OEM models, refer to your OEM User Guide and the X Series User Manual for wiring and connection considerations.

Device List

Begin by using the following tables to locate your device or module. Once found, note your connector type, pin count, and any other notes for reference, and then move to the Cable and Accessory Compatibility Tables.

Important Note: "Group" used in this context is solely to categorize devices together that use the same cables and accessories. It does not necessarily indicate similar functionality, specifications, or other commonalities between the devices.

Group 1: 68-Pin Multiplexed Multifunction I/O 63xx Models Device And Module

Note: USB Multifunction I/O 63xx devices connect to your PC through a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 cable with USB Type A and Type B connectors on opposite ends. This cable is included in the original shipping kit of your USB Multifunction I/O 63xx device.

Identify your VHDCI 68-pin device or module, then click to jump to the compatibility table.

Known Limitations and Issues List

This section is important to review because not every cable and accessory combination allows access to the full functionality of your NI DAQ Multifunction I/O 63xx device or module. This list contains notes about known limitations when using certain combinations of DAQ cables and accessories. If your device or cable is not listed in this section, there are no known exceptions for it.

  • NI recommends that you use the SHC68-68 cable with Connectors 1,2,3 (if equipped). You can not use the SHC68-68-EPM cable on these connectors.
  • Only Connector 0 can be used with SCC carriers (SC-2345, SC-2350, SCC-68).
  • BNC-2115 provides BNC connectivity to 24 of the differential (48 single ended) analog input signals on Connector 1,2,3 (if equipped).
  • TB-2706 can not be used with these modules.
PXIe-6349
  • BNC-2115 provides BNC connectivity to 24 of the differential analog input signals on Connector 1.

  • These devices and modules do not support SCC carriers (SC-2345, SC-2350, SCC-68).
  • These devices and modules only support differential (DIFF) input mode. The BNC-2111 only supports single-ended measurements. Thus the BNC-2111 can not be used with these modules and devices.

Cables:

Review this table for alternative cabling options.
ModelNote
SHC68-68-EPMFor VHDCI connections NI recommends that you use the SHC68-68-EPM cable; however, a SHC68-68-EP cable will work with NI Multifunction I/O 63xx Models (formerly X Series). The SHC68-68-EPM cable is a newer design featuring additional shielding and specific cable pairings to improve noise performance.
SHC68-C68-EPMThe SHC68-C68-EPM can be used for any device or module for which the SHC68-68-EPM is recommended. The SHC68-C68-EPM is intended for custom breakout fixtures that use the VHDCI 0.8 mm connector. DAQ accessories only feature a SCSI 0.050 D-Type connector and will not work with this cable.

Glossary

Review the DAQ Cable and Accessory Guides for more information about this terminology and other descriptors.

  • Ribbon Cable - A low-cost unshielded cable solution. Click here for an example.
  • Shielded Cable - A high performance cable solution that offers noise reduction through shielded conductors. Click here for an example.
  • Shielded Terminal Block or Connector Block - A high performance accessory solution offering very low-noise signal termination through shielding. Click here for an example.
  • Unshielded Terminal Block or Connector Block - An alternative low cost accessory solution that does not offer shielding. Click here for an example.
  • USB Device BNC Model - These USB Multifunction I/O DAQ devices provide most analog signal connections through a BNC cable connection. They also provide Port 1 digital lines and PFI signals through BNC, and Port 0 and Port 2/PFI digital functionality through screw terminal connections. These devices do not require the use of additional cabling or accessories. Click here for an example.
  • USB Device Mass Termination Model - These USB Multifunction I/O DAQ devices do not provide any direct signal connectivity on the USB device. Instead all signals flow through cables and the VHDCI connectors to an accessory, as opposed to USB screw terminal or BNC variants. Click here for an example.
  • USB Device Screw Terminal Model - These USB Multifunction I/O DAQ devices provide all signal connections through a screw terminal connection. These devices do not provide signal connections through a cable and accessory. Click here for an example.
  • Very-High-Density Cable Interconnect (VHDCI) - An improvement on the SCSI 68-pin connector featuring .8 mm pin spacing, allowing a smaller footprint and fewer bent pins during connection. Click here for an example.
