Introduction - NI Biomedical Startup Kit 2.0

NI Biomedical Startup Kit

blog_ql.png

The NI Biomedical Startup Kit is a suite of applications for use in the biomedical field. These applications enable you to apply biomedical solutions using National Instruments software, such as LabVIEW, with National Instruments hardware, such as NI Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite II (NI ELVIS II). You can use these applications to perform built-in biomedical applications, such as acquiring, preprocessing, extracting, and analyzing biosignals and biomedical images.

This kit contains the following applications:

You can import real world and real-time biomedical data by using biomedical sensors. You also can use National Instruments hardware and the applications in this kit to generate, validate, and analyze virtual biomedical data.

The Biosignal Logger, Analog ECG Signal Generator, and Online Biosignal Noise Reduction Data Logger interface with NI ELVIS II, an educational design and prototyping platform, to generate and acquire biomedical signals. When these applications are used with the other Biomedical Startup Kit applications, you can create a virtual ECG application research device without the use of real sensors. The following figure shows the process of using NI ELVIS II with the Biomedical Startup Kit applications.

Use the Analog ECG Signal Generator to generate ECG signals. Validate the ECG signals you generate by using the Biosignal Logger. Analyze and extract ECG signal features by using the HRV Analyzer and ECG Feature Extractor. Refer to the Where to Start with NI ELVIS II document, available at ni.com/manuals, for information about how to set up and configure NI ELVIS II. Refer to the NI Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite II (NI ELVIS II) User Manual, available at ni.com/manuals, for information about the NI ELVIS II architecture and instruments.

Software Requirements for Executing the Biomedical Startup Kit

You must install the following National Instruments software products to use the Biomedical Startup Kit applications.

  • LabVIEW 8.6 Run-Time
  • NI-DAQmx 8.8

Refer to the National Instruments Web site  to learn more about these products.
