BIOS Firmware Installation Instructions

To use this application, you must have a USB flash drive. This USB flash drive will be formatted so that, when booted, it prepares the system for a BIOS update. This application runs on Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Note  Flashing this BIOS will reset your CMOS default settings. Record changes you have made to them prior to flashing this BIOS!

Complete the following steps to install the update:

  1. Insert a USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer. Any existing data on the flash drive will be erased.
  2. Use the CreateUSBUtilityDisk.exe application to make the flash drive bootable.
    1. Run the CreateUSBUtilityDisk.exe application with administrator privileges.
    2. Select the appropriate drive in the drop-down list.
    3. Click the Make Bootable button. A progress bar indicates when the formatting task is complete.
  3. Insert the USB flash drive into your controller.
  4. Reboot your controller. While the controller boots, press DEL to enter BIOS Setup Utility.
  5. Configure the controller BIOS settings. If the specified setting is not present on your controller, you may skip that step.
    1. Verify NI Linux Real-Time is selected for the controller operating system:
      1. Navigate to Advanced/Boot»LabVIEW RT Configuration»LabVIEW RT Operating System.
      2. Select NI Linux Real-Time.
      3. If you changed the setting, press F10 to save changes and reboot.
      4. Press DEL during boot to re-enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
    2. Change the following settings:
      1. Navigate to Advanced»USB Configuration»Legacy USB Support and select Enabled.
      2. Navigate to Advanced»USB Configuration»Mass Storage Devices and select Auto.
      3. Navigate to Advanced»SATA Configuration»SATA Mode Selection and select IDE.
      4. If you changed any settings, press F10 to save changes and reboot.
      5. Press DEL during boot to re-enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
  6. Navigate to Save & Exit»Boot Override and choose USB Flash Drive. If there are multiple options, do not select the UEFI option.
  7. If you selected the correct boot override option, the controller will reboot into DOS. Once the controller boots into DOS, follow the onscreen instructions to flash your BIOS.
  8. Once the system starts the BIOS update process, you must let the program complete. Failure to do so will corrupt the system and it will no longer boot.
  9. When the program finishes, the controller should reboot automatically and boot into the operating system normally. If the controller boots into BIOS Setup Utility, press ESC to boot into the operating system.

If a problem occurs during the flash, contact NI technical support for assistance.
