Overview

LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit enables you to connect to NI DataFinder in order to manage and search your data files regardless of format or location. The Desktop DataFinder ("My DataFinder"), installed with this toolkit, creates an index of the descriptive information stored with your test files. With LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit you can build applications to access the indexed information using either a simple keyword search as well as an advanced query to find trends and correlations in your test data. LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit can also connect to NI DataFinder Server Edition, the DataFinder server for larger, centralized data management applications.

System Requirements

To create applications or shared libraries using LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit, you must be a properly licensed user and have the following software installed on the host computer:

  • National Instruments LabVIEW 2015
  • National Instruments LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit

To deploy and use applications or shared libraries using LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit, you must be a properly licensed user and have the following software installed on the host computer:

LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit can change the configuration settings of the following versions of DataFinder when installed on the same computer:

  • National Instruments DataFinder Server Edition 2.1 or higher
  • National Instruments Desktop DataFinder 2010 or higher

LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit supports the following platforms:

  • Windows Vista 32 bit

  • Windows Vista 64 bit (as 32 bit application)

  • Windows 7 32 bit

(LabVIEW 64-bit) LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit is not supported in LabVIEW (64 bit).

Redistributing and Activating Executable Applications

Use Application Builder to create installers to distribute stand-alone applications and shared libraries built with LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit. Include LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit Run-Time installer. Activate LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit Run-Time on the host computer using the NI License Manager.

Known Issues

Firewall

The firewall displays a warning while LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit installs because the DataFinder, which you use for searching and navigating in files, then starts.

If you want to be able to use all the functions offered by LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit, National Instruments recommends that you select "Do not block" for all programs listed. This also applies when you want to evaluate LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit. Refer to ni.com/info under the info code expm69.

Installation

LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit and DIAdem Version 10.0, and later versions, install and use a shared software component (Desktop DataFinder - My DataFinder) that is updated when you install LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit. When you uninstall LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit, the current version of the shared component remains. This is intentional and has been tested extensively.
LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit, DIAdem Version 9.0, LabWindows/CVI Version 8.1, DataFinder Server Edition 1.0 and LabVIEW Version 7.1, and later versions, use a shared software component (USI) that is updated when you install LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit. When you uninstall LabVIEW 2015 DataFinder Toolkit, the current version of the shared component remains. This is intentional and has been tested extensively.

DataPlugins

Use a DataPlugin built with LabVIEW DataPlugin SDK only with the same LabVIEW version with which you created this DataPlugin.

You can modify an example VI to fit an application, or you can copy and paste from one or more examples into a VI that you create.

Automating the Installation of NI Products

You can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes. However, starting with the August 2012 releases (products using NI Installers version 3.1 or later), you may need to perform additional steps before or during a silent installation of NI software.

If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.0, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.0 separately before you install NI software.

How to Use NI Software with Microsoft Windows 8

When you install National Instruments software on Microsoft Windows 8, you will notice a few additional tiles on the Start screen, including shortcuts to NI application software products such as NI LabVIEW, Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), and the new NI Launcher.

Using NI Launcher

NI Launcher helps you find and launch installed NI products. It provides you with a method of finding NI products similar to the Start menu in previous versions of Microsoft Windows. To use NI Launcher, click the NI Launcher tile on the Start screen. NI Launcher launches the desktop and opens a menu containing a list of NI products. Click any NI product to launch it.

Note  Unlike previous versions of Microsoft Windows, MAX does not appear as a desktop shortcut. You can launch MAX either from the Start screen or from within NI Launcher.

Pinning Frequently Used Applications

For convenience, you can pin your most-used NI applications, such as MAX, to either the Start screen or the Taskbar on the desktop, as necessary:
