67xx Models : DAQ Analog Output Cable and Accessory Compatibility

Overview

Use this guide to match your NI Analog Output (AO) 67xx Models PCMCIA, PCI, PXI, or PXI Express (PXIe) DAQ device with a compatible cable and accessory to meet the needs of your application, replacing or expanding your current configuration, or verifying that existing parts can be used in a different configuration.

NI Analog Output 67xx Models (formerly referred to as NI AO Series) are the current generation of NI Analog Output DAQ hardware. They allow for analog output, and digital and counter input and output through a variety of connectivity options.

This page is part of the NI DAQ Multifunction I/O Cable and Accessory Compatibility Guide.

How to Use this Guide

It is important to work through this guide sequentially to identify and then pair up your device with compatible cables and accessories. To do this, complete the following steps:

  1. Find your module or device in the Device List.
  2. Use the Cable and Accessory Compatibility Tables to identify your device.
  3. Check the Known Limitations and Issues List for any known limitations you may encounter.

Note: Using the page search functionality in your browser to locate your model may speed up this process, typically CTRL+F on Windows or ⌘+F on OS X.

Device List

Begin by using the following tables to locate your device or module. Once found, note your connector type, pin count, and any other notes for reference. Next, move to the Cable and Accessory Compatibility Tables.

Important Note: "Group" used in this context is solely to categorize devices together that use the same cables and accessories. It does not necessarily indicate similar functionality, specifications, or other commonalities between the devices.

Cable and Accessory Compatibility Tables

Find the compatibility table that matches the pin count and connector type of your device. If you have questions on terminology, refer to the Glossary. After you have identified the cable and accessory options for your device from this section, move to the Known Limitations and Issues List.

Note: To help keep the size down of the compatibility tables, the terms terminal block and connector block are used interchangeably.

Known Limitations and Issues List

This section is important to review because not every cable and accessory combination allows access to the full functionality of your NI DAQ Analog Output 67xx (formerly AO Series) device or module. This list contains notes about known limitations when using certain combinations of DAQ cables and accessories. If your device or cable is not listed in this section, there are no known exceptions for it.

  • The Analog Output Series User Manual (June 2007), P/N 370735E-01, incorrectly lists TB-68 as a supported accessory. The correct accessory model is the TBX-68, as listed in this guide.
  • When using with the TB-2705, the PXI-6711 doesn't use all the terminals available on the terminal block.
DAQCard-6715
  • The SHC68U-68-EP cable listed in the Analog Output Series User Manual (June 2007), P/N 370735E-01, is supported, but no longer available for purchase.
  • The Analog Output Series User Manual (June 2007), P/N 370735E-01, incorrectly lists TB-68 as a supported accessory. The correct accessory model is the TBX-68, as listed in this guide.

  • The part number for the SHC68-68-A2 cable is 157599-01.
  • (PXIe-6738/6739) The SH68-C68-S is only for use when integrating the NI 6738/6739 into a NI 6723 system. Refer to the NI PXIe-6738/6739 User Manual for more information.
  • The BNC-2110 Installation Guide (October 2007), P/N 372121F-01 lists support for the NI 673x, however this does not apply to the NI 6738 and NI 6739.

 Cables:

Review this table to identify potential limitations and known issues with your cable.
ModelNote
SHC68-68-EPMFor VHDCI connections, NI recommends that you use the SHC68-68-EPM cable; however, an SH68-68-EP cable will work with NI Analog Output 67xx Models. The SHC68-68-EPM cable is a newer design featuring additional shielding and specific cable pairings to improve noise performance.
SHC68-C68-EPMThe SHC68-C68-EPM can be used for any device or module for which the SHC68-68-EPM is recommended. The SHC68-C68-EPM is intended for custom breakout fixtures that use the VHDCI 0.8 mm connector. NI DAQ accessories only feature a SCSI 0.050 D-Type connector and will not work with this cable.
SH68-68-EPMFor SCSI 0.050 D-Type connections, NI recommends that you use the SH68-68-EPM cable; however, an SH68-68-EP cable will work with NI Analog Output 67xx Models. The SH68-68-EPM cable is a newer design featuring additional shielding and specific cable pairings to improve noise performance.

Glossary

Review the DAQ Cable and Accessory Guides for more information about this terminology and other descriptors.

  • 0.050 D-Type - Industry standard SCSI connector standard featuring 0.050 pin spacing that is used in 50, 68, and 100-position DAQ cable and accessory connections. Click here for an example (68-pin).
  • Ribbon Cable - A low-cost unshielded cable solution. Click here for an example.
  • Shielded Cable - A high performance cable solution that offers noise reduction through shielded conductors. Click here for an example.
  • Shielded Terminal Block or Connector Block - A high performance accessory solution offering very low-noise signal termination through shielding. Click here for an example.
  • Unshielded Terminal Block or Connector Block - An alternative low cost accessory solution that does not offer shielding. Click here for an example.
  • Very-High-Density Cable Interconnect (VHDCI) - An improvement on the SCSI 68-pin connector featuring .8 mm pin spacing, allowing a smaller footprint and fewer bent pins during connection. Click here for an example.
