Overview

This document contains the NI-Serial known issues that were discovered before and since the release of NI-Serial 21.3. Known issues are performance issues or technical bugs that NI has acknowledged exist within this version of the product.

 

Not every issue known to NI appears on this list; it is intended to show the most severe and common issues that you may encounter and provide workarounds when possible. Other technical issues that you may encounter could occur through normal product use or system compatibility issues. NI-VISA does not support Serial DTR/DSR flow control on Linux

The DTR/DSR flow control mechanism is not supported in a standard way by the Linux Operating System.

NI-VISA doesn't support Serial DTR controlled transceiver modes on Linux

RS-485 Serial ports typically support several transceiver modes. However, NI-VISA only supports the following two modes on Linux:
  • 4-Wire
  • 2-Wire Auto

Workaround:

There is currently no known workaround for this issue.

Reading and writing single-byte messages at a high rate to a large number of ports on Linux RT might drop data

When writing and reading 1-byte messages between NI-Serial ports on NI Linux RT, read operations have been observed, in rare cases, to fail to read all written data when writing to large numbers of ports (more than 16) at high rates.

There is currently no known workaround for this issue.
